Veteran actor Vignesh, fondly remembered for his impactful roles through the ’90s and 2000s, has made a graceful comeback to the silver screen with Red Flower. In a candid conversation, he opens up about Dhanush’s thoughtful tribute, his gratitude to Isaignani Ilaiyaraaja, and how he’s rediscovering his passion for acting—excerpts from the exclusive interview with Nikhil Raghavan.
Q: Dhanush recently recalled the song “Naan Yeri Kara” from Chinna Thaayee during his Idli Kadai promotions. What was your first reaction?
Vignesh: Honestly, I was both surprised and moved. That song is very close to my heart. It’s a timeless melody created by Isaignani Ilaiyaraaja sir, and being part of his music is always magical. I’m deeply grateful to Dhanush for bringing back those memories and shedding

light on a film that still means so much to me.
Q: Ilaiyaraaja’s music has always been a crucial part of Tamil cinema. What makes that experience special for you?
Vignesh: Working with Ilaiyaraaja sir is something every artist cherishes. His compositions have a soul that connects deeply with people. Even after so many years, listeners continue to hum those tunes, and that’s the real beauty of his music.
Q: You also expressed your gratitude to your first director, the late Mr. Ganesh Raja. Tell us a bit about that.
Vignesh: He was my first guiding force in cinema. Mr. Ganesh Raja believed in me when I was just stepping into the industry. Remembering him at moments like this feels right because every milestone in my journey somehow traces back to that first opportunity he gave me.
Q: You congratulated the Idli Kadai team for their success. What impressed you about the film?
Vignesh: I loved the sincerity behind the film. The director’s vision, the performances, and the core message all resonated beautifully with audiences. It’s wonderful to see a film that entertains and also leaves you thinking
Q: You’ve made a comeback with Red Flower. How does it feel to be back, and what can fans expect next?
Vignesh: It feels like coming home. The love I’ve received has been overwhelming, and it motivates me to keep going. I plan to do more films and give my absolute best to entertain the audience. Their affection is what keeps an artist alive—truly, that love is everything.
