Sure-fire success formula for students: A 3-pronged approach comprising right attitude, health and academics: Chief Guest Debabrata Das at Dayananda Sagar University Annual Convocation
An evergreen and sure-fire success formula for students across disciplines and programmes is to have a three-pronged approach comprising attitude, health, and academics that promises long-term career advancement.
The Chief Guest of the Dayananda Sagar University Convocation, Dr Debabrata Das, Director, IIIT, and Project Officer, National Mission for Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems, Govt of India, sent this advice to the student community on Monday.
Addressing the august gathering which congregated for the 8th Annual Convocation of the Dayananda Sagar University’s Harohalli Campus in the city on Monday, Dr Das said, “Attitude comprises integrity, commitment, and team spirit,” he said. “A person cannot work in isolation due to an interdisciplinary approach in any product development. Hence, working with others required team spirit which the industries are looking for,” the Chief Guest said, and added, “Physical and mental health have become increasingly important with time.”
Academic life today means lifelong learning, Dr Das said and told the students that “You are graduating, but you should not think that you have learned everything, as the requirements of human beings and technologies have been changing continuously. Hence, learning is going to be a continuous process.”
The guest of honour was Mr. Jonas Brunschwig, CEO of Swissnex and Consulate General of Switzerland in India. He said his top priority was establishing vibrant Indo-Swiss collaboration in education, research, and innovation within India’s science and technology ecosystem. He congratulated DSU on its technological prowess.
Earlier, Dr Amit Bhatt, Vice Chancellor, of Dayananda Sagar University, detailed the university’s prominent achievements during the academic year. Among them, DSU getting the coveted A+ grade in NAAC, he said was a remarkable achievement for a young university.
Dr Bhatt said the AY 2023-24 had been a productive year for research. The DSU faculty published 174 journal papers, 221 conference papers, 13 books, 50 book chapters, and 133 articles.
Besides research, there was a remarkable increase in placements, he said, and added, 90% of eligible students were placed across 530 companies. A Rs 35 lakh PA package was the highest received by students. Over 700 students had secured internships. They also received the Rolls Royce Unatti Scholarship for Women.
DSU students also collaborated with Nokia on network management systems and their project was ranked among the top 10 projects in India.
‘A Yesterday for Tomorrow’, a short film produced by DSU’s Journalism alumni from the previous year, Anoushka Metrani, Aakash Hegde, and Suyash Chandra won the prestigious Boden Film Festival award in Sweden and Tatras International Film Festival award in Slovakia, amongst others, he said.
The university has also signed many MoUs with top industries and professional organizations. He highlighted the achievements of all the schools across DSU in the past nine years. Addressing the graduates, Dr D. Premchandra Sagar, Pro-Chancellor of DSU, spoke about how over the past nine years, DSU had produced some of the best minds across all disciplines.
Citing the A+ grade awarded by NAAC as a testimony, Dr. Sagar underlined how the university had embraced technology and data, opening new avenues for learning, research, innovation, and collaboration across multiple disciplines.
For the record, the 8th Annual Convocation of the Dayananda Sagar University saw the awarding of 52 gold and silver medals to students from across different programmes and 42 doctoral students getting their Ph.D degrees.
In all 2,115 students graduated in the academic year gone by.
The Pro-Chancellor of the University, Dr. D. Premachandra Sagar conferred degrees on the graduates and administered the pledge during the event. The Chief Guest of the event, Dr. Debabrata Das, Director, International Institute of Information Technology, and Project Officer National Mission for Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems, DST, Govt of India, awarded the medals and prizes to the top performers across the academic programmes.
